Irish Soda Bread

I thought it would be fun to get into the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day spirit!  I thought I’d start it off with a fun bread that makes a great little appetizer to munch on!

Irish Soda Bread 015

Here is everything you’ll need:

2 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 TBLS baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

3 TBLS sugar

1/2 cup cold butter cut into cubes

1 1/2 cups raisins

3/4 cup buttermilk

Pre-Heat oven to 400 degrees

In a bowl add 2 1/2 cups flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 TBLS baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt & 3 TBLS sugar Mix together

Mix together
Add 1/2 cup butter chunks and cut in with a pastry cutter or just use your hands!

Add the 1 1/2 cups raisins stir them in and then and the buttermilk and mix till just combined

plop the dough out onto a floured surface... kneed together by hand for about a minute

form a round ball

cut it in half and make two round balls

Place on a greased baking sheet

Cut 2 slits in the top of the bread  Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.... Turn the oven down to 375 degrees and bake for an additional 15 minutes
